Let us be blunt from the very first line: we did not test these services in a lab, nor did we bolt eight set-top boxes to the newsroom wall. We compiled public, dated, sourced evidence and turned it into a ranking that explains itself. That is the difference between this guide and the dozens of "best IPTV Portugal 2026" pages that clog up Google, nearly all of them pirate resellers dressed up as comparison sites.

Before we go any further, a quick definition, because half the confusion starts right here: IPTV is television delivered over the internet, rather than by aerial or satellite. Almost all modern TV is, at bottom, already IPTV. The MEO, NOS or Vodafone box rests on exactly that technology. In other words, IPTV is not a synonym for piracy: legal or illegal, it all comes down to the source of the signal.

We are also not going to pretend that people who go pirate are simply tight-fisted. They go for a legitimate frustration: the prices, the 24-month contracts and, above all, football split across half a dozen paywalls. To watch everything you need Sport TV, plus BTV for Benfica, plus DAZN for Europe, plus free-to-air TVI for Moreirense. Nobody has the patience for that.

We did not test hardware or time apps: we compiled dated public evidence. Each profile carries the "best for", what it is and who runs it, pros and cons with real complaints, price with the conflicts preserved, devices and the verdict.

One warning that applies to everything below: prices are July 2026 figures and, in the case of the operators, vary by address, promotion and contract term. Always confirm on the official site with your postcode before subscribing.

📺 1. RTP Play: score 7.85

Best for: anyone who wants free, 100% legal live TV, with no card and on any screen.

What it is and who runs it. It is the public-service broadcaster's streaming service, run by RTP. It is not a multi-channel package in the operators' style, but it gives you serious live television without paying a penny.

• It occasionally broadcasts free-to-air sport (the national team, selected Taça de Portugal matches including the final on RTP1, and the 2025 Supertaça).

• No premium football. Liga Portugal is not shown here, and the specific 2026 rights beyond what is listed are not verified: check event by event.
• Catalogue and channels centred on the RTP universe; it is not a full alternative to a paid package.

💶 Price. Zero. There is no paid tier, no upsell.

🖥️ Devices. Practically all the ones that matter, including the three big operators' boxes and its own Android/iOS app.

Verdict. If the goal is legal live television at no cost, nothing beats this. It takes the top of the ranking for the best value-for-money in the list. It only loses points where it was unavoidable: premium sport. It is the first app you should install, whatever the rest of your television diet.

⚽ 2. DAZN: score 7.50 {#dazn}

Best for: European football, Formula 1 and anyone who does not want operator contracts.

What it is and who runs it. A sports OTT platform. The former Eleven Sports was rebranded and, from 2026, the "Eleven" name disappears for good: only DAZN remains. You watch it in the app, with no box and no operator contract.

⚠️ Important correction: DAZN does NOT carry Liga Portugal. It is one of the most repeated errors in affiliate guides. Liga Portugal is overwhelmingly on Sport TV. DAZN is worth it for Europe and for motorsport, not for the national championship.

Best for: anyone who wants a complete box and, above all, for the Benfica fan.

What it is and who runs it. A telecoms operator with its own IPTV, the UMA TV box. Licensed, like every operator in this list.

Verdict. For a Benfica-supporting family that wants everything in one box, it makes a lot of sense: 4K HDR, built-in apps and Benfica's home matches. The cost is the rigidity, a 24-month contract and a price you only discover after handing over your address.

🏟️ 5. Sport TV: score 6.25 {#sporttv}

Best for: watching most of Liga Portugal and Portuguese football properly.

What it is and who runs it. A group of premium sports channels, sold through the operators and also as its own OTT (the Multiscreen). It is the engine of national football on pay TV.

You pay for it in rigidity (24 months) and in a price that is only pinned down by address.

Final score: 6.05/10. Coverage and speed at the top, contract and price pulling it down.

📶 8. Vodafone TV: score 6.00

Best for: anyone who wants the flexibility to choose the contract term.

What it is and who runs it. A fibre operator with its own IPTV, licensed.

❌ Cons

• Little differentiated on the essentials: with no rights of its own, it is just another reseller.
• Base price not shown (dynamic site) and 4K not confirmed in the sources accessed.
• Channel count lags behind MEO and NOS.

💶 Price (July 2026 figures; varies by address). The base price of the Fibre TV + Net + Voice packages is not public and depends on the address. The new specific terms have been in force since 09-01-2026. The add-on channels have a fixed price list (see above).

Verdict. The argument is the freedom to choose the commitment, including the option of no contract at all, which counts for anyone who does not want a two-year tie. Beyond that, it is a competent operator but with no big distinguishing factor, which explains its last place in the weighted total.

Final score: 6.00/10. Contract flexibility as its trump card, little differentiated on the rest.

⚠️ Why Pluto TV is not in this ranking

Pluto TV (Paramount's free FAST) appears on many lists, but it is not officially available in Portugal: according to the Portuguese press (Pplware), access is only possible via VPN, and there is no confirmed national launch or licensing. As our criterion is a legal service that is actually available in Portugal, we do not include it in the ranking. If you see it advertised as "available in Portugal", be suspicious.

⚽ The 2026 football-rights maze (the most important section) {#futebol}

Let us get to what really drives the Portuguese towards the pirate lists: football. It is not stinginess, it is arithmetic. To watch everything live and legally, you need to add up three, sometimes four subscriptions, each with its own login, its own app and its own bill. Nobody bundles the whole league in one place.

And this is where nearly every guide you will find online gets it wrong, some out of laziness, others because they are selling you a pirate subscription and have no interest whatsoever in you understanding the map. Before the table, hold on to four brakes, because these are where the internet goes wrong:

⚠️ Four truths so you do not get lost

1. There are two different cycles and they do not mix. The domestic rights (Liga Portugal, the Taça) are sold club by club: each club negotiates its own home matches. The UEFA rights (Champions League, Europa League, Conference League) are a separate cycle, negotiated by UEFA.
2. 2026/27 is the same as 2025/26. The much-discussed centralisation of domestic rights was approved, but only comes into force in 2028/29. And the current UEFA cycle runs until 2026/27. DAZN's big change is only from 2027/28. In other words: nothing you will read about "the new model" applies this season yet.
3. "Free Champions League on RTP" is FALSE in this cycle. It does not exist. The free final (on YouTube, via LiveMode) only arrives in 2027/28.
4. No single service shows the whole of Liga Portugal. This is the structural problem, not a flaw of one operator. It is like this until 2028/29.

🗺️ Where to watch Liga Portugal in 2026, competition by competition

Season 2025/26, with the same model confirmed for 2026/27. July 2026 prices, to be confirmed on the official site. Domestic rights are sold club by club: each club places its home matches wherever it sees fit.

⚠️ The flagged prices diverge between sources; the full figures are in the DAZN and Sport TV profiles.

Note the obvious, because it is where the affiliates slip up: DAZN does not have Liga Portugal. If a guide tells you to subscribe to DAZN and watch the Benfica–Sporting of the round, it is lying to you. DAZN is your ticket to Europe (the whole Conference League, the Champions League and the Europa League shared) and to Formula 1, not to the national championship.

And watch out for another neat trap: Porto Canal and Sporting TV are the clubs' channels, with magazine shows, interviews and highlights. They do not have the league's live matches; those are on Sport TV. The only club that broadcasts its own home matches, live and exclusively, is Benfica, through BTV.

💶 What it actually costs to watch almost everything

Let us add it up, without any romanticism. If you want the complete fan package, the minimum combination to "watch almost everything" live is this:

• Sport TV with UEFA → €29.99/month (most of the league, Porto and Sporting at home, the Taça, the Taça da Liga, the PT teams' Champions League/Europa League)
• + DAZN → €16.99/month ⚠️ (price in conflict: some sources say €17.99 or €21.99, confirm at checkout). It gives you the Conference League, F1 and the European slice that Sport TV does not cover.
• + BTV (via a NOS/operator package) for Benfica's home matches.

Total: from ~€47/month on sport alone, not counting BTV, which comes wrapped up in operator packages and has no public standalone price in the sources we consulted.

Almost €50 a month, and even so there is always a match that slips through depending on the draw. It is this sum that explains, more than any moral sermon, why so many people give in to the pirate temptation. I am not justifying it, I am being honest about the maths.

Now the good news, the one nobody tells you with any enthusiasm because it earns no commission: there is legal, free football.

🆓 The football you have already paid for (with your taxes and DTT)

• Liga Portugal 2 (SABSEG) → Canal 11, on DTT, for free.
• Taça de Portugal, selected matches and the final → RTP1, for free.
• Moreirense at home → TVI / V+, free-to-air, for free.
• National team and the 2025 Supertaça (Sporting–Benfica, 31/07/2025) → RTP1. (The 2026 Supertaça being free-to-air is not yet confirmed, do not assume it is.)

It is not the whole league, not by a long way, but it is more free, legal football than most people imagine.

🔵🔴 And Benfica, Sporting and Porto? (fan to fan)

The question everyone asks, answered by club:

• Benfica fan: the home matches are exclusive to BTV, which you access through a NOS package or another operator that resells it. The away matches follow the opponent's rule, i.e. usually Sport TV. The Benfica–NOS deal was renewed for 2026/27 and 2027/28. (As for the contract value, the sources diverge: some say €104.6M and others €114.2M depending on whether they include advertising and the stadium, so do not fix on any figure.)
• Sporting fan: the home matches are on Sport TV, live. Sporting TV is the club's channel, with its own content, not the league matches.
• FC Porto fan: exactly the same, home matches on Sport TV. Porto Canal is the club's channel, it does not broadcast the league's live matches.

In other words, to watch your club in every round, practically no one escapes Sport TV, and Benfica fans add BTV on top. It is fragmentation in its purest state.

🔮 What changes in 2027/28 (context, not yet in force)

So you are not caught off guard when the change arrives, but with the stamp clearly visible: this is the future, it is not the season being played. From the 2027/28 to 2030/31 cycle (confirmed in April 2026):

• Champions League: still shared DAZN + Sport TV, but DAZN goes to 166 matches per season. Sport TV keeps first/second pick, the best Tuesday/Wednesday match. The final becomes free on YouTube (via LiveMode), in addition to Sport TV.
• Europa League: becomes DAZN, exclusive and in full (342 matches per season). It leaves the shared arrangement.
• Conference League: DAZN, exclusive and in full.

Until then, hold on to the simple ruler: 2026/27 is played by the same rules as 2025/26. Anyone selling you the season with the 2027/28 model is getting ahead of themselves, out of ignorance or convenience.

🆓 The best legal, free options {#gratis}

Before opening your wallet, it is worth exhausting what is already free and legal. It does not cover premium football, and we will be direct about that, but it covers far more than most people think.

• 📺 RTP Play is the pillar: 8 live channels and more than 20 in total, with no account or card, on almost every device.
• ⚽ Canal 11 (DTT) broadcasts Liga Portugal 2 (SABSEG) free-to-air.
• 🏆 RTP1 gives selected Taça de Portugal matches, including the final, and broadcast the 2025 Supertaça free-to-air (the 2026 edition is not confirmed).
• 🟢 TVI / V+ have Moreirense at home free-to-air until June 2028.

📡 Legal, free IPTV lists (M3U) in Portugal

Anyone searching for "IPTV list Portugal" usually wants one specific thing: M3U files to open in a player. And, contrary to what the SERP suggests, there is a genuinely legal route to that. The M3UPT project (m3upt.com, with an open repository on GitHub, LITUATUI/M3UPT) gathers public streams from RTP, SIC, TVI, regional channels and radio, with instructions to open them in VLC. These are signals that the channels themselves make publicly available, so there is nothing illegal about using them.

What these legal lists do not have is premium football or paid channels: if an "M3U list" promises you Sport TV, DAZN or the latest cinema releases, it has stopped being legal. That is the line.

A note that separates the legal from the pirate and that most guides do not make: the app is not the problem, the source is. Players such as IPTV Smarters, TiviMate or Smart IPTV are perfectly legal applications. What makes a list illegal is the origin of the signal put into it, not the program that reads it. Keep this distinction, because it is the one that dismantles half the confusion out there.

Once you add up the free options, the case for paying becomes honest: you pay for premium football and for convenience, not for raw "live TV", which already exists for free.

We are going to separate what the law says from what circulates in WhatsApp groups, distinguish the operator from the viewer, and flag honestly the point where the sources themselves do not agree.

🤔 What is IPTV, anyway?

IPTV is television delivered over the internet rather than by aerial or satellite. Almost all modern TV is, at bottom, already IPTV: the MEO, NOS or Vodafone box rests on the same technology. That is why "IPTV" does not mean "piracy". The difference between legal and illegal IPTV and streaming is not in the technology or the app, it is in the source that provides the signal.

Let us start, then, with the distinction that changes everything: the service is one thing, who uses it is another.

Licensed vs pirate, and what the law actually punishes

A licensed service pays for the rights it broadcasts. That is the case with MEO, NOS, Vodafone, NOWO, DAZN, Sport TV, OPTO and RTP Play. It issues an invoice, has a tax number, has support, and the signal does not vanish in the middle of a match.

A pirate service resells, without authorisation, content it did not license. It is the "list" at 10 euros a month "with everything", sold over WhatsApp, with a "free trial" and no invoice. And here is the essence: in Portuguese law, whoever sets up and sells that service and whoever merely watches it are on completely different planes.

The Copyright and Related Rights Code (CDADC) is the criminal statute. The articles relevant to pirate IPTV almost always describe the business, not the sofa of the person watching:

Note article 199, the provision most used against pirate IPTV: it speaks of "sells, offers for sale, imports, exports or distributes to the public". It describes the reseller. It does not describe someone who opens an app and presses play.

That is why Law 82/2021 also deserves a warning. Those 5,000-to-10,000-euro fines that this law provides for do exist, yes, but they are for the telecoms operator that fails to comply with a blocking order. They are not a fine on the consumer. It is exactly this figure that the IPTV sites take, shift out of context and use to frighten people.

And the viewer, can they be fined? Both sides, unresolved

Here is the honest part, and the one almost no Portuguese page does with rigour: the liability of the mere viewer in Portugal is genuinely contested. The sources do not all say the same thing, and we are not going to pretend that they do.

Side A: the structural evidence points to the viewer not being sanctioned. The criminal law targets the operator. There is not, on the public record, any conviction of an ordinary viewer for having watched pirate IPTV. And there is a sign that speaks for itself: Apritel, the operators' association, lobbies in favour of creating sanctions on the user, which only makes sense precisely because those sanctions do not yet exist. The specialist press sums it up with the phrase that "all of Europe fines except Portugal", with the country "still in the warning phase" (Leak.pt, TugaTech, April and May 2025).

Side B: but there is a report that the PJ already reaches the end user. At least one outlet, Leak.pt, reports that the authorities seize subscribers' data and the associated IP address, that they "know who paid", and speaks of fines that "can go up to 5,000 euros in cases of repeat offence":

"The fight against piracy in Europe is tightening the net and taking aim at the end user, that is, at you." "Subscribers' data is seized. The authorities know who paid, how much they paid and, often, what the IP address used was." (Leak.pt)

Original (pt-PT): "A luta contra a pirataria na Europa está a apertar o cerco e a mirar-se no utilizador final ou seja, em ti." "Os dados dos subscritores são apreendidos. As autoridades sabem quem pagou, quanto pagou e, muitas vezes, qual era a morada IP utilizada."

This report has to be read with tweezers. It comes from a single type of source (technology press), it is not confirmed by any government, legal or law-firm source, and the 5,000-euro figure itself is ambiguous, because it also circulates as Italy's figure, not Portugal's. The citable legal basis in Portugal aims the 5,000-to-10,000-euro fines at the operator or intermediary, not at the viewer.

⚖️ The honest reading: going after someone who merely watches is not the documented norm, and there is no conviction of an ordinary viewer on the public record. But there is a credible report of PJ interest in users. In other words, it is a real but contested risk, not a guaranteed "you are safe, they will never come for you", and also not a guaranteed "you will be fined". Anyone who tells you either of those two certainties is making it up.

There is also the European backdrop, which is worth not distorting. In the Filmspeler ruling (C-527/15, of 26 April 2017), the Court of Justice of the EU decided two things:

1. Selling a device pre-configured with access to illegal streams, for profit, is an infringement. In other words, it targets the seller.
2. The temporary copies made when streaming from a manifestly illegal source are not covered by the private-copying exception.

In legal theory, the second point opens the door to a potential civil liability for the person watching. But it does not automatically create a fine or a crime. And, unlike Italy or Germany, Portugal has never turned that doctrine into sanctions on the user.

The fine figures that are simply false

Before going on, it is worth disarming the figures doing the rounds, because most have no legal basis whatsoever in Portugal:

The irony is that the people who spread these numbers the most are, often, the very ones selling the pirate service. Sowing fear of the vague serves to then sell the "solution". Do not let a sourceless figure decide your wallet for you.

The risk that IS confirmed: real-time blocking

While the viewer fine remains contested, there is a risk that is documented, measured and happening every round: the pirate service simply stops working.

The real Portuguese regime was never to go after those who watch. It was to block the infrastructure. And it reached that point in stages:

🧱 The escalation of blocking in Portugal

• 30-07-2015, Memorandum of Understanding: voluntary self-regulation between IGAC, MAPINET, the operators (APRITEL), DNS.PT and rights holders. It creates administrative site blocking, by agreement, not by state order.
• 29-01-2022, Law 82/2021 in force: it makes IGAC the entity that can order operators to remove or block content.
• Season 2024/25, real-time football blocking: the most aggressive format, debuted this season, with domains cut off during the match itself.

The IGAC figures for that first live-blocking season are the harshest in this article:

• Illegality verified in about 98% of cases
• An average of 46 blocks per match
• The blocks come into effect about 30 minutes before kick-off

In 2025, in total, there were around 1,600 permanently blocked domains plus thousands of temporary ones, with live sport accounting for 56.7% of the reports.

Translated for the sofa: in the 60th minute of the derby, with the match level, your pirate stream freezes. Not because the seller vanished, but because the domain serving that signal was blocked at operator level, in real time, mid-match. That is the product you are buying when you pay 10 euros for a list "with everything".

On top of this, the PJ treats IPTV piracy as organised crime (networks, money laundering, not the individual user) and launched, with Sport TV, IGAC, ANACOM and DECO, the campaign "It's not just a game. It's a crime" ("Não é só um jogo. É crime"). And there is the other risk, the security one: pirate apps and lists are a known vector for malware, banking fraud and data theft. There, there is no ambiguity at all.

At bottom, the practical question is not so much "will I be fined?". It is "how long will this service work before it leaves me hanging mid-match, and what am I installing on my phone to watch it?". The answer to that one is, indeed, well documented.

🚩 How to spot a pirate IPTV service {#pirata}

If you are comparing options, it is worth knowing how to tell a licensed service from a pirate reseller before you leave your card number there. And it is not hard: the signs are nearly always the same. If you want to go deeper, we have a guide dedicated to the pitfalls to avoid before buying and a reliable-service checklist.

The problem is that these pages disguise themselves. They pose as "2026 comparisons", invent scores and quality seals, and never, under any circumstances, say the word "pirate". When around 80 to 90% of Google's first page for iptv portugal is exactly these resellers, learning to read them saves you money and hassle.

Tick the points. If three or more ring true, it is not a legal service.

🚩 Pirate-service checklist

• 💸 "Everything" for €10 to €12/month. Sport TV, DAZN, Champions League, Netflix, "35,000+ channels" and films just released, all for less than Sport TV without UEFA (€19.99) alone costs on the official channel. The maths does not add up because nobody paid for the rights.
• 📱 Closed over WhatsApp or Telegram. No shop, no checkout, no company. A phone number and a "message me and I'll activate it".
• 🎁 "Free trial" of 24 or 48 hours. Portuguese operators sell by contract and do not give classic trial periods. An instant "free trial" by message is a reseller subscription.
• 🧾 No tax number, no invoice, no contract. There is no company name, tax address or receipt. There is no one to complain to when the service goes down.
• 💳 Payment by MB Way, PayPal "friends and family" or crypto. On the forums, the buyers themselves swap tips to avoid the card, a sign that they know it is risky and unstable. If they ask you not to use a card, it is a warning.
• 📉 The stream drops mid-match. The most reliable sign of all. I will explain why right after this.

This last point is what separates the promise from the reality. In Portugal, the fight against football piracy is done through real-time blocking: the domains are cut off about 30 minutes before kick-off and throughout the match. In the 2024/25 season IGAC counted close to 3,950 domains blocked across 86 events, with an average of 46 blocks per match. Translated: the list you bought works beautifully during the week and dies precisely at the 20-minute mark of Benfica–Sporting, when you wanted it most.

It is not bad luck or an "overloaded server", as the seller will tell you on WhatsApp. It is the design of the system. And because the source is illegal, there is no refund, no support and no second chance. That is why pirate lists always die halfway through the season.

Add to this the rest of the invisible bill: installing players from dubious sources is a known vector for malware and banking fraud, and it is the card and the data you entered that end up exposed. You save ten euros a month and risk far more than that.

🧭 Buying guide: which to choose by your use {#guia}

There is no universal "best service". There is the best service for you, and that nearly always depends on one question: what are you turning the television on for? Choose your profile.

⚽ "I just want to watch football"

Then the next question is compulsory: which club? In Portugal the rights are sold club by club, and they will stay that way in 2026/27, just as in 2025/26 (centralisation only arrives in 2028/29). There is no single service that shows the whole of Liga Portugal. Translated by team:

• Benfica at home lives on BTV, which you get via NOS packages and other pay-TV operators.
• Sporting and Porto at home are on Sport TV, alongside the majority of the league's matches. Note: Porto Canal and Sporting TV are the clubs' channels, with their own content and highlights, they do not broadcast the league's live matches.
• Europe and F1: DAZN carries the Conference League in full, Formula 1 (exclusive until 2027) and shares the Champions League and the Europa League with Sport TV. What DAZN does not have, and this is the most repeated error in affiliate guides, is Liga Portugal.

Want to watch almost everything live? The minimum combo is Sport TV with UEFA (€29.99) + DAZN (€16.99, a figure in conflict between sources) + BTV. And there is genuinely free football: the Segunda Liga on Canal 11 (DTT), Moreirense at home on TVI/V+, and Taça de Portugal matches, including the final, on RTP1.

🎬 "I want films and series"

For cheap national content, SIC's OPTO gives you SIC live and catch-up for €3.99/month (or a free version with ads). For the bulk of international streaming, the most comfortable route is an operator box (MEO, NOS, Vodafone), which already brings together Netflix, Prime Video and Disney+ in one place and one remote.

👨‍👩‍👧 "It's for the whole family"

Here an operator with a box pays off: MEO with up to 230 channels, NOS with 180 channels in 4K HDR on the UMA TV box, or Vodafone with up to 170. It is the simplest experience across various ages, at the cost of a contract (typically 24 months) and a price that varies by address. If you have several TVs at home, also look at how TV works across several screens at once.

💶 "The budget is tight"

Start with what is free and legal: RTP Play (8 live channels, no card), Canal 11, the free-to-air signals and the free version of OPTO. 🔓 "I don't want long contracts"

Flee the 24-month contract. DAZN and OPTO have no contract at all, and NOWO is the traditional operator with the shortest commitment on the market: just 3 months on fixed services.

💡 On "real savings": do the maths using legal combos only. A fibre deal with DAZN, or Sport TV plus à la carte streaming, compared with a 24-month 3-play package, is an honest comparison. The "€144/year for everything" you see around is not a saving: it is a pirate subscription that stops working mid-match.

Before subscribing to anything, it is worth confirming two technical details that decide the experience: your internet speed for 4K and whether the connection over Ethernet cable or Wi-Fi can handle live streaming without stuttering.

🔬 Methodology: how we assessed (and what we did NOT verify)

Let us be direct about what this guide is and is not.

We did not test. We did not install eight boxes in the living room or time the buffering. Nobody who writes honestly about this market does, and be suspicious of anyone who claims to have done so. What we did was compile dated public evidence: the operators' price plans and official pages, the IGAC site and Diário da República for the law, CJEU rulings, and reference Portuguese press. Each service received a score from 0 to 10 across five weighted, disclosed criteria:

The biggest weight goes to content and rights because, in this market, it is football that decides the purchase. The ranking order follows the weighted total, without exception: that is why a free service like RTP Play sits at the top for value, even though the verdict then segments by profile (the best for football is DAZN plus Sport TV, not the overall no. 1).

So we are not asking you to take our word for it, here is the open calculation, service by service:

What went unverified, and we own it: the base prices of MEO, NOS, Vodafone and NOWO vary by address and promotion, so the figures here are aggregator estimates, to be confirmed on the official simulator with your postcode. The exact prices of DAZN and Sport TV diverge between sources, and we preserved those conflicts rather than pick the prettier number. 4K support and screen limits for some operators were not reliably documented, and where we did not know, we said we did not know. All figures are from July 2026 and should be reconfirmed on the official site before subscribing.

🏁 Verdict: our recommendation by profile

After everything is added up, the honest conclusion is that there is no single winner. There is the right service for each profile.

• Want the best value and won't open your wallet without a reason? Start with RTP Play. It is free, it is legal and it is the highest score in the ranking, precisely because it delivers serious live television at no cost.
• Live on European football and Formula 1 and hate being tied down? DAZN, as long as you understand that it does not have Liga Portugal.
• Is your club Porto or Sporting, or do you want the bulk of the league? Sport TV is unavoidable, however expensive and opaque it may be.
• Are you a Benfica fan? Add BTV, via NOS.
• Want everything in one box for the family? MEO or NOS do the job, at the price of a 24-month contract.
• Cannot stand long contracts? NOWO (3 months), DAZN or OPTO (no contract).

Here is the warning that runs through the whole article: the highest overall score (RTP Play, for value) is not the same as "best for football", which remains DAZN plus Sport TV. And no single service covers the whole of Liga Portugal, it is club-by-club fragmentation until 2028/29.

And the final truth, the one no reseller page will tell you: the real risk of going pirate is not the fine that a reseller site invents to wave in front of you (viewer liability remains contested, neither guaranteed nor non-existent). It is the stream that dies in the 60th minute of the derby, and what you install on your phone to watch it. The legal option costs more, but it works when the referee blows the whistle.
